Making New Friends

I consider myself a very out going person and I can generally make small talk with just about anyone.  As I get older I am finding that making new friends and new connections is a little bit harder.  Perhaps there is more at risk, more fear of failure or I’m just getting too comfortable in the places and connections that I already have.

I recently e-mailed another wedding vendor who I have admired their work from afar.  I have been wanting to e-mail them for months, but I was so certain they would have no need or time for me, my business or what I might have to offer.  I finally got up the nerve to e-mail them.  To my complete surprise and delight they not only responded, but responded in a way that I know they are a genuinely nice person and interested in getting to know me.  They made that leap of faith to put themselves out there and to make a connection.  I was so excited that I practically walked on air for the rest of the day.  It’s not like they responded by telling me the secret to life long happiness or how to eat chocolate cake and not gain weight or how to solve wold peace.  But the fact that they did respond and their interest in getting to know me made my day.

This exercise in taking a leap of faith to make new connections and new friends has taught me two lessons.  One, be willing to put yourself out there-the reward is well worth the perceived risk.  Two, take the time to help others-you’ll be amazed at the impact you will have.

Happy Thursday everyone!  I will be shooting Theresa’s wedding tomorrow at the Inspirador!  Here is to wearing comfy shoes while we work!
